Our Story

Two co-founders and co-presidents, two journeys — one shared belief that no girl should lose access to education simply because nobody opened the door for her.

Claire's Story

Rooted in Henan, China

How Claire's family history shaped FFS's mission to make education more accessible.

Claire's origin

The Story:Henan, China

Claire's grandmother grew up in Henan, China, where she dropped out of school after second grade. Like many girls around her, she was expected to leave the classroom behind and become a farmer.

Decades later, Claire noticed a quieter version of the same pattern in her own 9th grade computer science class: girls stepping back from STEM, not because they lacked ability, but because they lacked support, visibility, and encouragement.

That family story became the foundation of Future Female Scholars — the belief that access to education shouldn't depend on where you were born or who opened the door for you.

Vivian's Story

Seeing the Gap in STEM

Vivian's path grew from noticing the same problem from a different angle: girls had talent, but not always community.

Vivian's origin

The Story:Seeing the Gap

Vivian's path to FFS started in the 9th grade CS classroom, where she kept noticing girls quietly opting out of STEM, not for lack of talent, but for lack of community.

Her work beyond FFS has taken her to ISEF, a TEDx stage, and competitions across the country. Every experience deepened her conviction that girls don't need to be discovered; they need to be supported.

Vivian leads FFS's outreach, partnerships, and community growth, making sure more girls can find their way in, wherever they're starting from.
